Google has released a new tool for simple page design and hosting. It is called Google Page Creator and it is basically an online WYSIWYG editor for web pages. It has support for a few basic layouts, color schemes, and font styles, bolding, etc. Will this eventually eliminate the need for custom web development? You tell me - I'd be very interested to hear your feedback.
I recently worked an javascript banner ad for a daily newsletter, and, needless to say, it was not a great idea. I would venture to say that javascript is not supported by 90% of email clients, so as excited as your VP of marketing or whoever else may be about it, do your best to dissuade them. Although flash is not recommended for newsletters, its still better than javascript!
A recent patch to IE puts some minor restrictions to Flash usage in IE v. 6. The update can be received through Windows Update, although it is not in the Security or Critical updates section, so you really have to go hunting for it if you want to install it. Translation: not that many people will really have it. However, I had to figure out how to bypass it using some tricky javascript, so if you're interested in learning how, let me know.
Sincerely,
Kalen Jordan
